Thanks Richie. I checked BGIS Vol.2 lesson 6. Anyway, I think I just over-analyzed the usage of symmetrical diminished scale and its modes. I find mode B works just fine. The alignment is all good as well. I simply figured that despite the intervallic makeup of a diminished chord the functions of its chord tones are considered those of a dominant chord, in this case 3-5-b7-b9. Moreover, a dim7 chord is a symmetrical one which means that any of the four chord tones can act as the root. The notes don’t change, just the order of them. This is it, unless Richie has something to add. By the way, I attached another diagram.

Richie, is there a chance for the “Chord Melody And Comping” course to come out this year?

Sorry, I meant to post it under Theory & Harmony. Could you delete my posts here, Richie? I will re-post it under Theory & Harmony.

No problem, Richie, thanks for the reply. I can certainly imagine the amount of work involved, so I’m not surprised it may take longer than anticipated to finish Vol.2.

You sent out an ear training survey before, but the response hasn’t been overwhelming. I’d love to see more segments on the subject, but if it’s just for the benefit of a few and you are overworked as it is, skip it, for the time being anyway. I’ve got ‘EarMaster Pro 6’ I can fall back on as well.

Thank you Richie! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am sort of a computer geek myself. I worked in IT support department. Although I’m not a heavy user of Finale, I do have it. I kind of figured how you must be doing it and you confirmed it for me. It would be nice if there was a plug-in for the intervallic script, but since there isn’t one, workaround will have to do. I think it will be worth the effort to get comfortable with the process due to the advantages of both Finale & BIAB.

As for my own etudes, give me a little more time and I will certainly take advantage of your invaluable feedback. The amount of material is somewhat overwhelming, but it’s great and fun to work with at the same time. I’m only an amateur trying to better understand the language of jazz and enjoy playing it in the comfort of my home. Tackling jazz at the young age of 56 has its disadvantages, but I don’t want to miss the opportunity.

Please, do not hesitate to include more ET videos. I could use whatever you’re willing to share with us.

I see the Rhythm Templates as blueprints for creating and developing my own vocabulary. I don’t intend to shy away from writing original etudes.

I will look forward to the chord melody and development of harmony course. I hope Richie will release it soon after the Vol.2 of the Bebop series is finished.

I was close to the mark then. I was thinking somewhere around Vol.2. Thanks for the reply!

No big deal! Not worth the time to change it now. Index, middle, ring, and pinky sound pretty universal to me. Avoiding two sets of numbers on the tab is a good idea, and we don’t have to use classical nomenclature.

At any given stage one aspect of the course may seem more important than the other, but ultimately, all six key sections are important.
