No problem, I had to start that thread on the other forum to let everyone know who is struggling with learning Jazz improv….Its already changing my playing and hopefully in a year or 2 I’ll sound like a jazz guitarist:)

I just checked Jamie Taylor on Masterclasses, have practical comping..Looks really good…going to purchase it tonight.
kenThanks Mr Curr,
I’m looking for something like what I call chord movement…If you ever watched Jack Wilkins comp behind someone, the guy never stops moving….Are any of those link have that kind of theory and or examples?
Thanks
Kenthx Richie
kenok thx
That’s great because I’ve been trying forever to find a book or online that really demonstrates chord movement say over a standard like my romance…I can play all kinds of inversions myself, but I’m looking for more complex movement I guess….Maybe I just need to expirment more with the Barry Harris method of using the Maj and Minor 6 chord with the diminished scale.
kenIf you ever watched someone like Jack Wilkins comp behind someone, he never sits on 1 chords, it’s constant movement…I guess most pros embellish quite a bit from whats written on the lead sheet. For example a measure of EbMAJ7 instead of playing that for 4 beats , most pros embellish, but I just don’t mean using inversions of the same chord. They use many devices I suspect.
Thx
KenThanks Richie,
Will start doing that!!
Ken
PS maybe set up Skype lesson next week.Ok thanks Miguel, going to start using the summary page tonight…Let me ask you, do you actually memorize every pattern or just a few? Also do you know of any good sites to learn chord movement in a Jazz standard?
Or books.
Thx
KenI’ve been looking at the exercises and the scale degrees that have the tab on them, I haven’t been using the summary page, maybe that’s my problem?
Thx
KenI’m not sure who invented it, but it works:)
From what I understand it helps you play in any key and position….as long as you know the numbers it’s suppose to be easier…Did you read why he uses it in the PDF in Module 1?
KenYes Modules is over whelming ..lol
ok thx!
Hi Ron,
Not sure why you can’t, that you’ll have to ask Richie.
