I’m still in Module 1 and working on the basic intervals (so far as ear training goes). Thought I might “pick out” some Christmas songs and am enjoying that. They have strong, simple melodies (-which is about all I can handle by ear right now) and I enjoy being able to do this. (My mom plays piano by ear–she was playing at school functions and in church as a child: could play any tune she knew and it mystified that I ‘study music’ rather than ‘just play it’. If only!)
Seems like good practice, and it’s fun too.
Sounds like a good plan! Most Xmas songs lend themselves to a jazzy treatment too. Several are already jazzy…”chestnuts roasting on an open fire..”
I always remember my days playing corporate Xmas parties with a trio and swingin like mad on those tunes! Now they mostly hire DJs…and again on New Years…
