Anyone have any recommendations on CD’s that have the type of Jazzblues we are working on?
      Thx

I would strongly recommend Kenny Burrell. He’s got a few recordings where he focuses on the blues…”Midnight Blue”, “Bluesin’ Around”, “Blue Bash” , “Blue Lights”, etc

If you haven’t done a lot of this already, I would also recommend listening to a lot of traditional vocal blues – Memphis Minnie, Robert Johnson, Big Joe Turner, Son House, Muddy, B.B., Bessie Smith, etc. While the jazz blues seems to leave the traditional 3 line, call and response pattern, it’s still there boiling underneath it all.

If you go for Midnight Blue be sure to get the Rudy van Gelder remaster edition. There are some dreadful ‘remasters’ out there but this one is great! I love that album.
