Richie, can you describe the different guitars you’re using in the videos?
I love the tone.
Can you describe the EQ settings on the guitars and amp, or into the board, you’re using?

I use 3 hollow body guitars in the lesson videos. A Heritage 535 (semi-hollow), Heritage 575 with Lollar P90s, and a Moll Workingmans Hero with a Lollar humbucker. On all 3 I use the neck pickup only and for the videos I usually go direct into the board.
I also usually keep my tone control most of the way up on each guitar and make the EQ adjustments on the board. There I roll off some highs, boost the mids slightly around 500hz and roll off any lows below 150 hz to avoid muddiness. Of course, I vary or better said compensate based on this recipe from guitar to guitar, as needed. The strings are also an important factor in the sound. I use flatwounds on all 3. 11’s on the Heritage 335 and 12’s on the Heritage 375 and Moll.
I was kind of curious as I couldn’t quite tell from the vids, and wanted to ask about Richie’s gear too, but I thought I’d do the search first, and here we are. Perhaps we can chime in with what we use. It might be interesting to find out what the other participants’ gear preferences are.
For Jazz I use three guitars: Carvin DC145 (custom shop solid-body), D’Angelico EX-DC (ES-335 type semi-hollow), Ibanez AKJ95 (hollow-body with flat wound light gauge: 11-50 strings), and two amps: Yamaha THR10C & Roland Blues Cube Artist.
On all three guitars I use the neck pickup only, keep my tone control about 3/4 way up, and make the EQ tweaking on the amps. I think it’s pretty standard approach: roll off some highs, boost the mids slightly, and back off the lows to avoid muddiness. Although there are tone differences, all three guitars work and sound great for Jazz.
How do you like the Roland Blues Cube?
Oh, I enjoy it very much, Walter. I’m a solid-state guy. Chuck Loeb turned me on to the Blues Cube. Hopefully, Richie won’t say it’s a sacrilege to play through a non-tube amp and send me to purgatory for one year. LOL

I’m absolutely loving my recently acquired Quilter Mach2 amp.
As for guitars, I have a few, but the one I use the most is a Chris Walsh small body semi.
I like it so much that I commissioned Chris to build me a guitar based on the Sadowsky SS-15 and the Benedetto Bambino Deluxe, neither of which I can afford.
Should be ready in the spring.
Can’t wait!

RonJust scored a spruce-top 2002 Heritage 575 with Thomastik-Infeld JS-112 flatwounds and a single neck humbucker. Also purchased a Henriksen Bud Ten amp. I don’t deserve this gear, but hey I’m retired now and can practice, practice, practice in style. I sold most of my other gear to pay for it all, so I won’t be living in my car anytime soon.
