      Hi Richie,
      I’m just starting the Calisthenics, and in Calisthenics 1, #2 and #3, they start with a note that’s not a target note, so the target notes are on beat 2, 4, etc. I’m just curious why they were done this way. Wouldn’t target notes normally be on beat 1, 3, etc? Is there some principle behind this that I don’t understand, or was this just arbitrary? Thanks in advance.

        Hi Udo,
        There is no principle behind this. Target notes can be placed on any beat! At least that’s the case in bebop.The important factor is to make sure that the approach tones don’t last more than an 8th note (at least at a medium or slow tempo).
