      Hi Richie,

I know for Bebop cal #1 you said that we didn’t need to memorize, but Bebop Cal#3 really seems like stuff we will use alot of..so I’m trying to memorize some it? Do have any suggestions on how to practice it to get it ingrained?

Other than keeping in mind the individual “recipes” or “formulas”, I can’t really suggest any method to memorize them. By playing them everyday as quick as possible, they eventually become second nature. Another super chops builder, is to play them thru the descending cycle of fifths, however this will require that you learn the remaining fingerings.

If you want to get creative with them, I suggest that you check out Appendix 2 in the workbook:”Further Adventures with Bebop Calisthenics”.

Hi Ken, i m also working with calisthenics 3.

At first it seemed really confusing.

Now i m working just with 3 and b7 : enclosure from below and above descending
enclosure from below and above ascending
enclosure from above and below descending
enclosure from above and below ascending

Only after i go and do the chromatic enclosures, following the same order.
Offcourse for each exercise do it in all 3 patterns.

This way i find that i dont loose track of my 3s and b7s.

I m going to do this for a week or so, only then will move to 1 and 5 doing the same stuff.

            hope it helps
            cheers
            Miguel

This Bebop Cal# 3 seems like alot of stuff you hear jazz guys play but since they play it so fast you can’t tell what their doing 🙂
