      Hi everyone,

To get the most out of the lessons (which I really should, since I’m a bit behind schedule), I recently purchased a used version of Band-in-a-Box and I’m about to install it on my laptop. I’m excited to start working with the lesson material!

That said, I’m wondering—do I really need the latest, updated version of BIAB to follow along effectively, as the company seems to suggest? Or is an older version still perfectly fine for the course?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I don’t think you really need the latest version. I have been running an older version for a long time and it works just fine for my needs. The main difference between the newer versions and the older ones are the inclusion of Real Tracks which are samples of actual musicians playing real instruments.

At the worst, if your version is very old, it will default to play your files using midi sounds which can sound somewhat “artificial” and mechanical. But they still accompany you playing all the chords and beats correctly which is what you need to practice.
