I’m curious: has intervallic script been around or is this something Richie invented?

I sing in my wife’s church choir and, not being such a swift sight reader, I’m always writing the numbers over the notes to represent the scale degrees of my lines. Works better for me but I’m always left feeling that I really should learn to read better. I appreciate the value of knowing what scale degree my note is on, and recognize that if I could read music fluently, that would not necessarily mean that I understood the function of my notes in their harmonic context in the same way that intervallic script does. So, I’m of two minds about this: I like knowing the function of my notes (intervallic script) but the more I use that, the less progress I’ll make on learning to read music.

      Any thoughts on this?

From what I understand it helps you play in any key and position….as long as you know the numbers it’s suppose to be easier…Did you read why he uses it in the PDF in Module 1?

Yes, I did read that and of course watched the video. I guess I’m just discussing it compared to learning to read actual music. And, in the first place, wondering whether Richie invented it, or it already existed…

I’m not sure who invented it, but it works:)
