well, i’m running out of membership next month. the only thing i can say is i will be taking out the gold subscription next time!
honestly, this course has been a neutron bomb of harmonic information. this is the kind of material it will take years to master. i’d like to share some thoughts on the course so far.
i deeply underestimated the depth and scope of the bebop calesthenics. to me, this is the meat and potatoes of the course, where the real learning and application happens. i enjoyed the rhythm templates more than learning the etudes, because i felt it was allowing me to practice the concepts i had learned.
i still watch and noodle along to the etudes but just enough so i can get a good idea of how my lines should begin and resolve. i’ve never been a “learn a solo” type of player, maybe some of you arent either!
i got as far, in my first subscrption, as module 6. i did spend a LOT of time on the chord primer, because i’ve never seen chords explained so simply and practically, and as a ted greene fan, i really loved how i was moving between these hip chord grips with great voice leading (thanks richie!)
all in all, im glad i didnt go for gold membership my first time around. i dont think i would have the time or knowledge to apply the arpeggio frameworks or the repetoire studies.
this is a 3 year undergraduate degree’s worth of information. i’m really looking forward to my further bebop studies on this site.
may the bop be with you!
